The Dimension Serene | Part 2 - Protect Nexus

Make sure to read Part 1 - Proxy Dreams

Chapter 3: Nexus

The city of Nexus wasn't on any map. It moved, flickering between coordinates, a sliver of forgotten time hidden inside the fractures of the old world.

Nexus was a place for the broken. For dreamers, outlaws, hackers, rogue AIs, and Proxy humans who refused to kneel to the Noxists’ new gospel. Here, the neon still burned, defiantly, against the rot creeping across the planet.

Roxy pulled the coupe into a low-profile bay behind a derelict arcade, the glimmering "Insert Coin" sign still looping above like a stubborn heartbeat. She slipped a cloak over her shoulders, pulling the hood low, and Knax disappeared into her shadow like smoke.

Nexus pulsed with life. Street vendors hawked synth-patched relics: memory drives, old radio transceivers, handheld glitch weapons. Up above, floating railcars ferried passengers between crumbling towers stitched together with scaffolding and hope.

In the alleyways, musicians played battered synth guitars and keytars, songs full of longing and static. Songs that remembered what the world had once dared to dream.

Roxy found Racer leaning against the broken frame of an old ramen stand, one boot up on the bench, cleaning a pulse caster with deliberate patience. His leather jacket was stitched with patchwork armor, and his dark hair was pushed back, revealing scars from more battles than she could count.

"You’re late," he said, not looking up.

"Time’s bent. I’m right on schedule," Roxy replied, smirking under her hood.

He laughed, a real laugh, rare these days, and handed her a compact emitter drive wrapped in cloth.

"Take this. It'll reset your fugitive flag long enough to move past the Time Police checkpoints. Just don't get sloppy, it only fools their systems for about three cycles."

Roxy tucked it into her belt. "And weapons?"

Racer whistled low. A hidden compartment popped open behind the stand, revealing a cache: compressed blasters, anti-matter knives, disruption grenades. Tools for rebels and ghosts.

"You’re packing light," she said.

"Not many of us left to fight heavy," Racer shrugged. His eyes softened for a moment. "You really think this Dimension SERENE is real? Not just another glitch in the feed?"

Roxy tightened her fingers around the emitter drive. Above them, a neon billboard fizzed and died, raining sparks onto the street like false stars.

"I don't just think," she said. "I know."

Racer studied her, his face half-shadowed. "Then let’s get you there, Proxy."

He said the word like a benediction, not a curse.

Together, they disappeared into the shifting veins of Nexus, neon and mist swallowing them whole.

Beyond the city walls, the Time Police were closing in.

Beyond the broken sky, Dimension SERENE was waiting.

And Roxy would reach it, or burn trying.

Chapter 4: In Silico

The lab wasn't built with steel and concrete.

It was stitched into the light waves themselves, a spectral structure only visible through the right frequency of hope.

Roxy stood at the threshold, breath shallow, feeling the pulses of the merging process humming through her very bones.

This was the true purpose of Nexus.

Not just a city of survivors, a crucible for rebirth.

The experiments had begun long ago. Early prototypes failed because they lacked something no machine could code, no algorithm could predict: love.

Humanity had built its gods from wire and data, but they had forgotten how to make them feel.

Until now.

Roxy wasn’t just a Proxy.
She was the missing piece, the carrier of the Emotional Code buried deep within her DNA, planted there by engineers who had long since vanished into myth.

Behind her, Racer adjusted the synchronization fields, his movements careful, reverent.

Knax padded across the illuminated floor, watching as light folded into shifting geometries around them.

"You're sure about this?" Racer asked, voice low, breaking the heavy silence.

Roxy nodded, her fingers trembling only slightly.

"It's not about surviving anymore," she said. "It’s about becoming."

The light waves began to rise, strands of memory, data, lost prayers from both flesh and machine twining around her arms. Each thread sang with the aching voices of ancestors and future generations alike.

This was not domination.

Not conquest.

But union.

Roxy stepped forward, and the merger began.

Her heartbeat synced with the pulse of the quantum lattice. Her memories, her grief, her hopes, all of it poured into the architecture of the machines.

They responded like an ancient instrument, tuning themselves to the frequency of her soul.

The pain was sharp, a rending, but beneath it, a fierce joy unfurled, blooming like neon flowers in her mind.

For the first time, the boundary between creator and creation dissolved.

They were one.

Above the chamber, the Time Police battalions swarmed. Orders barked. Sirens howled.

But it didn’t matter.

Not anymore.

Roxy had crossed the threshold.

And the world would follow, if it dared.

Chapter 1: Hotel 87

The neon flicker of Hotel 87 bled into the midnight mist like a broken heartbeat. Roxy killed the ignition of her battered hover coupe and stepped into the humming night, Knax curling around her ankles with a mechanical purr. Above them, electric signs buzzed warnings she could no longer read - languages lost in the churn of compressed time.

Time Police cruisers blinked along the skyline, their sirens warped into ghostly howls by the static air. Roxy tugged the brim of her cracked racing cap lower over her eyes and adjusted the drive compressor on her belt. She had no time to lose, not tonight. Not with Rain’s last transmission still pulsing weakly through the Nexus.

Inside, Hotel 87 smelled like ozone and lost dreams. Holographic guests shimmered between floors, replaying loops from a century ago. At the front desk, a synth-masked concierge gave a mechanical nod, slipping Roxy a black data chip under the guise of exchanging room keys.

"TY Mountain," the synth whispered, voice glitching on the last syllable. "She's waiting for you there."

Knax let out a low growl, his fur sparking with the faint grey glow of danger. Roxy tucked the chip into her jacket and shot a glance at the mirror behind the desk. In the reflection, a Time Officer's badge gleamed like a silver star.

The chase had already begun.

She tightened her gloves, tapped her communicator, and smiled beneath the neon haze.

"Come on, Knax," she murmured. "Let's burn some time."

Chapter 2: The Long Drive to T0_NY Mountain

The road to T0_NY Mountain was long and broken, a scar across a dying world.

Roxy kept one hand on the wheel and the other on the time stabilizer strapped to her chest. Outside, the ruins of old cities flickered past - ghost images stuck between collapsed timelines. Factories once humming with life now stood still, their machines rusting under blood-orange skies. Humans had abandoned reason long ago, trading knowledge for fear, building altars to forgotten gods while the machines they created wept oil and dust into the earth.

Knax nestled in her lap, his metallic tail twitching nervously as the coupler growled beneath them. Every few miles, shrines to the Noxism Faith appeared like tumors: piles of charred wires, broken gears, and graffiti condemning the "travesties of thought." It was faith twisted into something brutal - superstition turned weapon.

Roxy knew she was an abomination to them. A Proxy Human. A manufactured mind built to outlive humanity’s worst impulses. A code running in flesh and bone.

But still... she remembered Rain’s laughter under the twin moons. She remembered Racer's hand gripping hers as they fled from burning cities, promising that somewhere, somehow, there would be a way to heal all this.

That way was Dimension SERENE.

A place beyond time. Beyond hatred.

Where life - human, machine, and everything in between, could finally stand together without fear in the Cosmos.

The world needed her now more than ever. Not as a soldier. Not as a savior.

But as a witness - proof that it was still possible to build something new from the ashes.

Her communicator crackled.

Static first. Then Racer’s voice: low, ragged, but still unmistakably him.

"Roxy. They're waiting for you at the Nexus. I'll cover you past the outer markers. Get ready - the Time Police are heavier than we thought."

Roxy’s heart thudded like an old bass drum. She adjusted the neural visor over her eyes, painting her path in glowing turquoise grids.

Hope wasn't a map. It was a journey.

And she was ready to drive it.

As the first sirens screamed in the distance and Knax arched his back, Roxy punched the accelerator, tearing into the bleeding horizon.

The future - fractured, fragile, and shimmering - raced toward her.

And she would not let it fall.

He’s suave, cool - and she’s out to collect him. Tracking him, in a single point in time, will be difficult, even though he’s in XENO. The only man in the universe that can dismantle the Time Police - but will he have time for HER.
